At the beginning of the year I made a commitment to my triathlon season. Many asked why....its such a big commitment, are you sure you up for it...etc etc etc. After having my heart broken by a man whom I did care about and all my friends around me getting married, buying houses and having babies, this was my commitment to me, so I married my season.
I have no regrets, actually I am loving it. I am actually racing faster than I have in years, well at least since I took up the sport in 2007.
This year I also decided to have an 'A' race. An 'A' race to me is one where I want to a really good time and also do a distance that I have yet to accomplish. My 'A' race is the Indian Ocean Triathlon, held in Mauritius in November. I cannot wait. My plan is go out there a week early, train out there to acclimatise to the heat. The distance is 1.8km swim (sea swim and non wetsuit); 55km cycle and 12km run. All of which is achievable.
So far this year as part of my training the races I have completed are 2 half marathons (first time ever), and 3 Sprint triathlons.
The next few months leading up to the 'A' race will include cycling sportive races of 60 mile routes; Marlow Olympic Distance Triathlon; Worthing Olympic Distance Triathlon; Thames Turbo Race 4 Sprint; Cabbage Patch 10 miler run; and Run to the Beat Half Marathon. I may even add some specified swim races, just for the fun.
My training has been going from strength to strength. I am very lucky to have an amazing coach/mentor @LizPinches and amazing training partners @MeganSmith @CarolineSmith. An amazing physio @HelenSmith. A personal trainer who kicks my butt to develop my strength/core @Alan and my club @ThamesTurbo are an amazing bunch of people, I have never been encouraged so much, it makes a huge difference and I am forever grateful.
Triathlon is very much a sport of ability (at least in my opinion) but more than anything the power of the mind. I know that I have the power of the mind, and being so determined means I know that I am gonna kick butt.
So all in all, everything is going very well and on track for my 'A' race.
Next race : 23 June 2012 - OWS Aquathon - Club Champs :)
Till next time
