Pre Race Report - Worthing Olympic Distance

I have not written a pre race report before I don't think but wanted to set the scene for Sundays race. The lead up to this race my training has been off. I lost my training mojo and only now is it starting to slowly return. I was feeling like the training I was doing was not going anywhere.

Had a good chat with my mentor/coach @LizPinches and I resurrected my goal and passion. I am teaming up with @TomBennet from @T2Coaching and the lads from @TheAthleticEdge to really focus on triathlon specific training. I think I just needed a change. If you do the same thing, you will always get the same outcome. So time for a change.

This is my first full Olympic distance triathlon, 1500m swim/41km bike/10km run. My previous attempt was Marlow but unfortunately the distances were not true Olympic distances (900m swim/ 37.5km bike/ 7.5km run).

The plan for this race is simply to enjoy the sea swim (first one since October 2010 where I raced in Barcelona), the bike has a gradual hill which goes forever so going to focus on pacing the hill so that I don't burn out, keep the legs turning and high cadence. Ill take advantage of the descent back to transition, aim for a very quick transition and then the 10km run....pace myself. I want to aim for the first 3 -4 km to heart rate of 140bpm and then up the tempo without burning myself out for the remainder and leave some in the tank for my famous sprint finish.

As this is a training race in lead up to Mauritius, this is about getting familiar and accustomed to the distance.

I will be happy with a sub 4hr time. I estimate a sub 40min for the 1500m/ 2hrs for the bike/ 1:10 for the run.

Time will tell. This is also a @ThamesTurbo Club Champs race, so hopefully I do my club proud and simply have a good race. Relax/Power/Breathe

Till next time
