Thought I would quickly write a pre race report on my second race for the season. This one is my first 10km XC trail run. This has a lot of hills, something that I haven't done too much of but I have been building into my 70.3 plan.
This week we had a little set back, after my swimming lesson Monday, the following morning I woke up with a head cold. Advice from my peers and coaches I respect, advised that I should rest until tomorrow's run. That was a little hard for me to swallow simply because I had been consistent for the past 4 weeks in my training and I have been loving it and I was just at the beginning of week 5 of my 70.3 plan and to be told to rest and NOT train was a bit guttering for me.
However with all the advice, I took it on board and have not trained since Monday evening. Tonight as I go to sleep soon will be 4 full days of no training, just rest. I am still sporting this head cold but it is nowhere near as bad as it has been over the past couple of days, so I feel I am okay to run tomorrow morning.
The day will start early, around 5.30am wake up, get ready and eat a decent breakfast. I will be wrapped up warm to ensure I protect my chest, head and hands from the cold. I then will pick up 3 fellow Turbo triathletes and I will drive us to Newlands Corner, in Guildford.
The
G3 Newlands Corner Off road race is Thames Turbo first Club Championships race for 2013. We have approximately 30 turbos I believe running tomorrow morning. For me I am simply going to turn up and complete it the run. I have no expectations of myself on this race. I have never done a cross country race before. I believe it is a little over 10km. If I look at it realistically I run a lap of Richmond Park most weekends, and that is 11.25km roughly so I shall be okay. Just have to remember I have a cold still (getting the excuses in lol)
The course can be found here on Strava
G3 Newlands Corner Strava link Its hilly and for me will be tough, but I am going to enjoy it and I am going to enjoy running with my fellow triathletes.
To all my fellow Turbos, have a great race!
Till next time
