Italy Training Camp - Day 2


As I will be blogging each day about this camp I will keep them brief as I do not want to bore you all.

The day started with a 30 min run ran by Steve Trew. We did a 3 min warm up, followed by 2 rounds of 10 efforts of 30 secs fast and then 30 secs recovery. Cool down was a 3 min recovery. We covered 5km in this time. Really pushed the heart rate and the aim was to concentrate on cadence. 

We then headed to breakfast before our swim session with Dan Bullock. The swim session was a fitness. During this session I used paddles for the first time and instantly I corrected my high elbow! This was a breakthrough, the rest of my session I used the snorkel to concentrate on my high elbow. I couldn't believe how much faster I was, as I started to touch the persons feet in front of me. Looking forward to more swimming over the coming 12 days.

This is where it gets tricky, when on a camp it is very very easy to overtrain and get carried away. My plan said no ride, only 1 run and 2 swims. However I pleaded with my coach - Toby Smithson to allow me to do this ride, this meant dropping the swim session in the afternoon. Luckily he said yes, but it made me realise straight away that I needed to stick to the plan he has set me and use the time when everyone else is training to relax and catch up on stuff.

Whats the point of having a coach and paying for him/her if you don't listen to them, right?! At least that is what I think. 

Did the ride, just 60 odd kms, avg moving speed 25.6kph, climbed a little hill and then pretty much rode on the flat the rest of the way.

Got back, didn't do the swim session in the afternoon, was hard but I did the right thing.
