Recap to the start line #IMMelbourne - bringing everyone up to speed! (Part 1)

Hearing those words from the man himself - Mike Reilley,  and then now writing the same words, I seriously can't believe that I have achieved the goal of becoming an Ironman!

There is so much to write and I really don't want to bore you for a long time so I will try my best to capture everything by keeping it as tight as possible.

Quick recap on how we got to race day!
* December 2012 decided I was going to enter Ironman Melbourne
* December onwards started to eat a lot better, changed to high fat low carb, not stringent but got rid of processed foods.
November 2012 - 75kgs
* March 2013 entered Ironman Melbourne with the help of my mum who paid the Aussie dollar entry fee (I paid her back lol)
* May decided after thinking about it that I needed to hire a coach. Why? Well because I had no idea how to train for such a distance and I need to be told when it comes to this kind of stuff and I wanted to be accountable. Hired Toby Smithson, CoachTobyDotCom best decision I ever made!
* May purchased my Cervelo S2 (Magic Mike) from Sigma Sport, thanks to the assistance of Jenny Male (Fab service)
* May - became a brand ambassador for Huub
* May went over to Cesenatico, Italy for 2 weeks to Steve Trew's Personal Best Training Camp where I was trained in the pool by him and Dan Bullock from Swim For Tri.
* May rode the 5 of the 9 hills of Italy (Nove Colli) largest Gran Fondo race in Italy, 24000 riders!
* June - Oct - became a brand ambassador for Nuun UK, ISM saddles, Bonk Clothing,  Dryrobe, Funkita and Jackoatbar
* June completed my first half distance triathlon - Swashbuckler in 6:59:49
* July went to Roth to race in a relay team. The event didn't go according to plan and I was picked up by the wagon with less than 21kms on the bike to go. Gutted doesn't describe the feeling. Read about it here
* August completed my second half distance triathlon - The Vitruvian in 6:15! Massive PB
* September ran a PB on the Ealing Half Marathon 2:13
* Sept - Feb 2014 Continued training the blocks of sessions set out Toby. These sessions included a lot of turbo sessions, My poor Twitter followers copped a lot of tweets on those very long turbo sessions. My longest being 6:30hrs. I did it and it bloody paid off!
* Dec 2013 - featured on Triathlon Sherpa's podcast. Check it out here (36 mins)
* May - Feb 2014 - Employed Daniel Bullock from Swim For Tri to assist in developing my swim. This was by far my weakest leg of the Ironman distance and I knew I needed to make the cut off (2:20). The countless laps in the pool saw me improve quite a bit. Before leaving London for Melbourne all the swimming was being done in the pool as the lakes are far too cold to swim in during winter. My time for 3.8km non wetsuit in the pool was 1:46.
* Feb 2014 - headed to Lanzarote for Swim camp at Club La Santa with Swim for Tri. Whilst there I swam but mainly I was out there to get as much riding in as possible. My coach had me ride one session for 8hrs. Lanzarote is hilly and windy so I covered 170km in that timeframe.
* March 2014 leave for Melbourne, Australia!

From the time arrived in Melbourne, all I did was work and train in preparation for the biggest day of my life! I did everything as advised by my coach. He did nag me for my race plan and I am glad he did because come race week and race day, I couldn't have been more prepared!

New figure - 64kgs!
